(The view near the residence)

St Peter's Foundation is a new residential community whose members seek to deepen their life in God through prayer and service in the wider world. It is based on the south Devon coast in the seaside village of Malborough, near Salcombe, one of the UK’s top sailing destinations, a place of outstanding natural beauty.

Our aim has been to provide space and time for people aged 18 to 35 to discern God’s call. Currently, we have three participants, Johnny, Lewis and Ed. Sharing a common life of prayer, hospitality and service, we explore the opportunities of growing closer to God in the local community. Members commit to a year supervised by a team drawn from the parish and the wider diocese.

The community is structured around a Rule of Life, The Extra Mile, with a rhythm of prayer and spiritual direction at the core. This means sharing in the regular pattern of daily worship in the local churches and being involved in outreach and mission in the surrounding area. Although based in a rural community, there are opportunities to become involved in urban outreach with a partner parish in Plymouth. Whether you feel called to be in ministry or dentistry, a missionary or lawyer, this year will make demands but also be a time that helps set you in a path to walking ever closer with Jesus Christ.

Apply for a Year in Community

Although the first community is now up and running we are open to enquiries of interest for the following year. It is also possible for applicants to come and stay for an exploration weekend. Please ring Debbie on 01548 842626 or email her on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you are interested in knowing more.

Basics of Application

The year in community is open to young Christian adults who are regular members of a church. Generally, this means men or women from the age 18 to 30. If you are older we can consider you but we will need to refer this to the trustees.

Applicants should be of reasonable health while mentally be able and happy to take on the tasks of communal living, study, contemplative prayer, pastoral work, occasionally leading worship and paid local employment. We are very much looking for team players who are also able to give the "inward journey" a go.

This exploration of vocation may be to authorised ministry but equally, it could be a broader sense of vocation. Participants must be comfortable working within an Anglican context.  Currently, we are only taking from applicants who are UK/EU citizens.  This year is a considerable personal investment and therefore we are restricting this to single people who do not have any dependants.

Is there a financial cost for applicants?

This will depend on each person’s circumstance but we would encourage applicants to have some sponsorship beforehand. During the year members will be placed into part-time work for three days a week.
